Haifa is one of Israel’s largest metropolitans and is home to some of the most renowned tech companies. The city’s goal is to improve residents’ overall quality of life through transportation efficiency and eco-friendly environmental policy.
Dr. Einat Kalisch-Rotem, Mayor of Haifa, explains the impacts of adopting Axilion’s technology on the city…
“Haifa is committed to improving the overall quality of life for our residents through transportation efficiency and attractiveness. Our unique BRT (Metronit) lines’ effectiveness received a significant upgrade by installing Axilion’s technology on 100 traffic lights along its routes, allowing continuous optimization of the Metropolitan’s traffic management.
In a short amount of time, we doubled the number of passengers, saw higher satisfaction from public transit, less congestion, fewer accidents, and increased pedestrian safety.
The long term effects of becoming a smart city are many, as more employment opportunities opening up for the metropolitan residents. As Haifa is home to some of the most renowned software companies, including Microsoft, Google, Intel, and Amazon, its employees are now able to leave their private cars at home and use public transportation instead with a consistent 5 minutes schedule adherence. Surveys show that 11% of transit passengers choose to leave their private vehicles at home, translating into a yearly reduction of 140,000 tons of Co2 carbon footprint from transportation pollution in our city.
We are proud to be one of the first cities in the world to adapt Axilion’s groundbreaking technology and take a pivotal part in its success, as the company maintains close ties to our city with a Haifa-based R&D center and a research cooperation with the Technion. We look forward to expanding this partnership for the benefits of our residents.”
